La Cucina Alessi Kitchen by Alessandro Mendini and Gabriele Centazzo

Go on gastronomical adventures and seek inspiration from your kitchen island itself. La Cucina Alessi by Alessandro Mendini and Gabriele Centazzo embraces it curves and is a great relief from the usually emaciated linear kitchen islands. Eschewing traditional dimensions, the sculpturesque presence of La Cucina Alessi may just push its user to start a passionate love affair with food and even master the art of cooking.

Says the designers:

“The poetry and aesthetics of the curved line… an enveloping, sinuous, wavy and dynamic meaning. A feeling of total protection: physical, because by rounding off edges, accidents are avoided; and psychological, letting you use this culinary tool in a relaxed and happy way for perfect cooking results.”

Book Nook – The Read Nest Cabin in Danish Woods

Talk about compact! Danish architecture firm Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter designed this innovative book nook, the Read Nest Cabin, in an incredible 10-sq.-ft. space! And while it may be small, it sure is sweet – the unique design set in a wooded Danish location is modest, designed for a book worm. A fold-down bed, a table and built-in book shelves cover off everything this mini cabin was designed for – you, and a few of your favorite paperbacks and hard-covers. Built off-site, this contemporary prefabricated cabin can be placed virtually anywhere and moved so the scenery suits your mood. The facade is clad in strips of natural wood, with a large (well, about as large as you can get in this small nook) picture window which illuminates the whole interior. Hinged from the outside, the glass can be opened and propped up to create an awning-sheltered area outside. Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter
