Glass Prefab Homes – Black Glass Modular Home Design by A-Cero

Spanish architects A-cero sent us some photos of an amazing and unusual prefab home that we just had to share. This black glass house design not only looks cool, but it is also the beginnings of a modular industrialized architectural construction process. Benefiting from the same modularity, technology, quality control and timeframe as modern industrial manufacture (architect are director of the project Joaquin Torres likens the process to Ford’s production lines) this new method of designing and building houses will benefit from factory production and on-site assembly, resulting in shorter construction times, more specialized labour, higher overall quality and lower price. This prefab home, one of two pilot projects, even comes with the option of being fully decorated and equipped, ready for occupancy – could you imagine yourself living here? We could! The modern, minimalist interiors with a palette of white are a cool contrast to the contemporary black exterior. A-cero.

Contemporary House in Seattle Merges Chic Style with Cool Quirks

The juxtaposition of sleek, contemporary house architecture beside odd and quirky elements is what calls attention to this one-of-a-kind house in Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle. Architect Jim Burton of Blip Design came at this two-storey home remodel with a two-pronged approach, and an affinity for two very different genres. Chic and funky come together to play off each other, highlighting the other’s best features. Meticulous stone bricks meet a vibrant wood facade that almost glows in comparison. A flat roof is met by a pair of wild, upturned wings that top the funky side of this modern home. A lushly landscaped garden flanks each side of a stairway that leads up to the window-clad house. Judging by the bold exterior design, this 4,322-sq.-ft. design delivers on its unspoken promise of modern interiors, which are clean and contemporary by design. The four-bedroom, 3.5 bathroom design is currently listed on the market at a price of $2.4 million. Visit Queen Anne Modern for details. Blip Design.

The Poverty Line: Snapshots of Subsistence in China

The Poverty Line Snapshots of Subsistence in China The Poverty Line: Snapshots of Subsistence in China
A cup of black beans. Six steamed dumplings. Three potatoes. Stefen Chow-s photo series The Poverty Line captures what someone living on 3.28 yuan (about 49 cents) could buy in China, putting into pictures the stark statistics of those living in poverty. The results are not always what you-d expect.

Each group of items is laid out on a piece of newspaper — a single chicken breast, a shower of dried noodles — which seems to highlight the everyday reality of the rations. We weren-t surprised by the skimpy meat portion, but we expected some of the fruits and vegetables to be more generous. Two and a half cloves of garlic have never looked so small.

GOOD Magazine interviewed the photographer, who said he bought all the food at street markets in China, bargaining the price down to 3.2 yuan. It-s not all subsistence; one photo depicts a handful of gummy candies. This is intentional, says Chow:

I don-t limit the food to simply grain and vegetables. This is not an emotional analysis of what it means to be poor. It is an examination of the choices one would face being poor in China.
